Deepavali is coming up and I was thinking of what would be a good topic to write about. Food? Not again, since I already blogged about it for Raya. The festivities surrounding Deepavali? No to that either cause I'm not really familiar with the celebration. Closest to home for me was fashion--so I thought why not share on the beautiful Saree (Sari)!
I remember growing up with bollywood movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham where I would marvel over Kajol's sarees. The extensive beading, the beautiful, silky, and colourful cloth she wore always made her look stunning!
Sarees have this fascinating way of making a woman look sexy. The way the cloth drapes shows off a woman's curves, and yet it doesn't reveal too much. It's a piece of clothing where designers can modify and add their own interpretation to, and yet when you look at it, you can still tell it's a saree.
Aishwarya Rai's Saree here on the other hand is worn with a more elaborate silver bra top and a simple bracelet. A little less accessories compared to Kajol's, but still classy and well suited for a red carpet event.
Formal event or not, Sarees are worn as a part of the Indian culture. Each piece of Saree showcases much love for art, fashion and colours--and the fashion world agrees.
These elements also translate into other parts of the Indian culture, just look at the Rangoli (coloured rice art) designs found in malls as we celebrate the festival of lights, they're intricate and beautiful.
After much homework done on the subject, I've finally decided on my Saree :) Now, to find some muruku and celebrate!
