It's not easy to come up with music that can move your emotions, and even more so songs that can reflect or even represent a movie.
Think of Armageddon and Aerosmith's Don't Wanna Miss A Thing will come to mind, or Step Up 3D and you're reminded of Flo-rida's Club Can't Handle Me; it's music like these that very much help set the tone of the movie, and you can't help but associate them with each other.
But I have to say, there's been two songs that are associated to this one movie that I cannot (for the life of me) come to terms with.
Yes, it's Bruno Mars' It Will Rain & Christina Perri's A Thousand Years from Twilight that are part of The Breaking Dawn Part 1's soundtrack.
I wondered out loud to my colleague and asked her "Why were the songs released as part of the movie? Is it because they're looking to use the popularity of Bruno Mars & Christina Perri to gain awareness for non twilight fans?"
It's not often a motion picture soundtrack reaches a much wider range of fans in terms of popularity. Usually the movie and song are targeted towards similar groups of fans like how The Bodyguard fans love Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You or Slumdog Millionaire fans loving the song Jai Ho. In the case of Mr. Mars & Miss Perri, I think more people love the song more than they do the movie.
Like for me, I have never read the books nor watched the movie and I would say that I am indifferent towards Bella, Edward or Jacob. But if they were aiming to raise awareness for the movie with those two songs, I would say they were successful about it cause here I am sitting down in front of my laptop writing this post and putting It Will Rain & A Thousand Years on repeat.
At the end of the day, like my colleague mentioned, "You know what, a lot of people I know actually became curious about the movie because they kept seeing scenes from it on the music videos of It Will Rain & A Thousand Years. They succumbed to the calling!" and I laughed.
If it were you, would you be curious enough to want to watch the movie too?
