*Chinese text means: Happy Dragon Year
What's in a photo? They say a picture paints a thousand words and some say a photo immortalizes this one single moment, good or bad and you remember it forever.
I was looking through some of the contest entries for the CNY photo contest last week, where we had contestants send in pictures of their happiest moments along with a caption that will describe that photo. In particular, there was a photo of a family that was submitted in, where this one contest wrote a caption that said "Even though my parents are not around anymore, being able to celebrate Chinese New Year with my brother and his family makes Chinese New Year one of the happiest moments for me." Although it wasn't selected as one of the winners, when I read the caption on the photo I was really touched.
It reminded me of the telemovie Happy Family that we're airing this year on the first day of Chinese New Year (23rd January, 10pm). We had a special screening 2 weeks ago, where the cast & selected fans got to watch the movie beforehand and most of them, including the artists walked out of the movie with a whole new perspective of what it means to celebrate Chinese New Year and take a family portrait.
Miau Miau, one of the female cast actually cried after the movie. She confessed that she's not been back to her hometown to celebrate Chinese New Year for seven years, busying herself with hosting gigs and various schedules. Her one regret after watching the movie was that she never took a family portrait with her parents before both of them passed on. The happy ending in this story is that she made the decision to go back to celebrate Chinese New Year this year, telling herself that she has to treasure the family she has left.
So what's in a photo? A photo is that one moment in someone life that can bring back loads of memories and evoke emotions that might have disappeared.
