So yes, AJ Rafael was in town last Saturday to perform for his fellow Malaysian YouTube fans at the Bentley Auditorium and boy was he amazing!
If you watched AJ's vids of him introducing his South East Asia tour dates, you'd know that his KL showcase fell on the same day as Simple Plan's. AJ actually revealed that the KL show was near to getting canceled; but because of the crowd that turned up, it didn't. And because of that, he thanked everyone that came out that night.
What I loved about his show was that despite the small crowd, they were a fun bunch that were truly fans of AJ. Even before AJ started his 2nd song, everyone decided to come up to the front of the stage creating this really cool mosh pit, where they all sang along to his songs like "500 days", "Red Roses", "We Could Happen", "Without You", "She Was Mine", etc. One superfan even knew the lyrics to every single song that was performed that night, earning him the nickname "Superman" from AJ.

Krissy & Ericka from Krissysings on YouTube (who did a cover of Taylor Swift's Sparks Fly with AJ recently) were the opening acts and they kinda reminded me of M2M with their guitars and sweet voices. Other YouTube artists that also performed that night were Malaysian YouTuber RyanLucasMusic & UK based Malaysian TheBathroomGirl who was coincidentally back in KL for Chinese New Year.
All in all it was an amazing experience to be able to listen to these people whom you've always watched on YouTube live in action. Like AJ said, "I can't imagine this day would come if 5 years ago the internet wasn't invented." Similarly, we wouldn't have such an amazing pool of talented indie singers if it wasn't for the wave of YouTube right?
