Tasty Tuesdays: Search for Latte Art

Coffee is a hard subject for me. 

I don't love it, I don't hate it and yet I cannot say that I have never craved for it.

But there's one thing that always fascinated me about coffee, and that's the beautiful latte art that so many baristas strive to create, perfect and even design to make your cuppa extra special. That, I love.

If you google the term latte art, I'm sure you'll find loads of super cute and interesting pictures, like this one. But it's almost always photographed in a cafe overseas and it feels like there isn't any place that's famous for their latte art here in Malaysia.

Battle of Barista Championship 2012 @ Gurney Plaza

So I decided to do a little searching on google and I was surprised to find that we had a Battle of Barista Championship that was held just last Sunday (12/2) in Gurney Plaza, Penang. I was proud that we had something like this in Malaysia, but was a little let downed by the fact that the art created were the basic rosetta, heart & tulip ones.

Pick n' Brew Self Drawn Latte Art @ A Whiff of Lemongrass

I digged even further now, determined to find at least one place that had more creative & innovative latte art, but my search went as far as Pick n' Brew & O'Reilley's Irish Tavern & Grill (located in Johor). *sigh*

I guess as far as innovative Latte Art goes, we're no where near creating stuff like the Mario character. But the comforting side is that we do at least have coffee places who serve their coffee with basic art. At least for me, seeing a rosetta or a heart tells me how much effort the barista put in to not only brew that cup of coffee, but to also make it look good.
