Despite the heavy traffic on a weekday night headed towards the Bentley Music Auditorium, I managed to reach the venue in time for Kina's show. If you've read my previous post on watching AJ Rafael, I actually bought a ticket to show support; this time however I was grateful for Pauline from SoulManna Live who graciously gave me a media pass and the hall was already packed out when I walked in!
The show opened with Narmi singing. If you've read my post on Narmi before, he's actually in the ntv7 reality series called What Men Want, and he's the drummer for local band One Buck Short. Lately he's been doing some solo activities and it was great to see him perform to a crowd who applauded him for his great music. Narmi sang three of his most familiar songs which were Cair, Sorry & Whirl. I actually met him a few days ago and asked if his fanpage fans increased after the Kina Grannis show and he answered yes with a smile. He definitely makes Malaysians proud and I hope his album will drop soon!
So back to Kina, she sang a total of fourteen songs that night, including "In Your Arms", "Valentine", "The Goldfish Song", a new song called "This Far", and two encore songs--one a cover of Taylor Swift's "Safe & Sound", and the other from her Stairwell album called "Gone".
Kina focused a lot on singing but she did tell the fans some really interesting tidbits. Apparently, Malaysia came up as no. 2 in her most subscribed list and she's never imagined being able to fly all the way across the world to perform in front of real Malaysian people. Also, the other crazy thing was Kina had a group of close friends who would support her back in college when she started singing. One of them actually ended up working in Malaysia and came out to support her in her KL show. She couldn't believe she would meet him again after so long in such a faraway country!
Despite all the jet lag she was experiencing, she managed to perform and had a meet and greet session afterwards where someone got her to sign his head! Watch the clip below to see her cute reaction to that request!
